Soong

qigongSoong, pronounced as in the word soon, has a wide range of meanings. It is often interpreted as relax, but is much more than that. It also means to be connected throughout, like a tree’s roots are connected into the ground and via the trunk to the branches and leaves.

In Tai Chi the practitioner should sink and maintain the feeling of rootedness even when moving. This act gives rise to Peng, or expanding energy. The act of soong occurs simultaneously in the body with Peng and can be described as pushing a ball underwater and feeling the pressure push the ball up.

This is one just one aspect of the deep knowledge and skill you can achieve when studying the proper foundations of the internal martial arts at DharmaWay Dojo.
